Choosing the Right Kayak
So you’ve been reading our blog articles from afar but now have decided to go “paddle deep” into kayaking. OK, maybe that’s not the case and instead you’ve owned a ‘yak’ for years but are in the market for something new.
Regardless of where you are on this spectrum, one thing is for sure- you’ll need to do some research before making your purchase. Do you go with fiberglass, plastic or kevlar perhaps?
The advancements in product technology within the paddling industry continue to amaze and what was state of the art not long ago might well be antiquated technology today.
One quick example would be the inflatable kayaks. While this would’ve probably seemed like a sub-par choice not many years ago, many product improvements have been made and it is now a real consideration for many looking for their first (or next) vessel.
For most folks, the starting point in choosing a kayak is to think about what type of water you're likely to do most of your paddling on. Based on that decision, you can start narrowing down your choices by knowing the category of kayak you’ll need.
There is still much to be decided at this point, however and to help you through the murky waters of choosing the right kayak, our friends at REI have a great informational article on how to choose a kayak that will hopefully guide you in the right direction and get you to the point of purchase with confidence.
Of course when it comes to paddles, there are many choices as well, but none are better than the selection of paddles created by Aqua-Bound! Check out our awesome paddles here!
Good luck in choosing the right kayak and we’ll see ya on the water!
