A Sense of Calm and Well-Being
It’s not just our imagination. Being out in nature—including on the water—really does give us a sense of calm, of well-being. It can be healing and invigorating at the same time. It can relax us, spur creative ideas in us, help us re-center our thinking.
A Sense of Awe
Sometimes it’s the tranquility of a glass-like lake on a misty summer morning. Sometimes it’s the beauty of the water and surrounding shoreline. Sometimes it’s the
excitement of waves or current. Whatever conditions we happen to be in at the moment, we feel this connection with something bigger than us. Something that gives us a sense of awe and thankfulness.
Connecting with Others
Paddling is a great excuse for spending time with family and friends, whether it’s one or many. It can be an afternoon kayaking down the local river with your friends…fishing with your kids…learning to paddleboard some surf with a spouse or best friend. Sharing the paddling experience with others is a rewarding, connecting experience.
Paddling is Great Exercise
Beyond the mental and emotional benefits we get from being on the water, we get the health benefits of whole-body exercise when we paddle. We build core strength, arm and back strength, and—depending on the activity—can get a great cardio workout.
