The Aqua Bound Ambassadors are a diverse group of paddlers from all over the world. A combination of kayakers, packrafters, paddleboarders and whitewater boaters, this group values the difference a premium paddle makes for their on-water experience. With a deep-rooted passion for whitewater and expedition paddling, Alejandro’s paddling journey began in canoes and evolved into a love for packrafting. Based in Orono, Maine, Alejandro is a registered Maine Guide and ACA Swiftwater Rescue Instructor, with experience including leading canoe, backpacking, and sailing trips for Outward Bound.
Alejandro loves the pace and intentionality of paddling. His favorite trips include a bit of newness, whether it is his first time in a place or sharing a river he knows well with a newcomer. Newness is part of what draws Alejandro to packrafting, where there are so many watts to combine paddling with hiking, biking, skiing and other activities.
Alejandro is deeply involved in the paddling community. As a personal paddler, guide, and educator, he enjoys paddling with friends and helping others improve their skills. He also plays a key role in organizing events. Last year, he helped organize the first Diversify Whitewater event in Maine, providing a free day of paddling for over 50 BIPOC, queer, and allied individuals.
In 2023, Alejandro achieved his goal of paddling at least one day every month, braving several cold-weather trips in Maine. While he doesn't plan to repeat this feat in 2024, he's looking forward to significant winter paddling adventures in the winter of 2024/25.

I have always loved being on the water as a kid growing up in Virginia Beach. My first experiences paddling came in college with courses in White Water Kayaking and Canoe Camping, using what I learned on the James River. Trips on the Potomac and New Rivers grew my love for the excitement of moving water.Upon getting married, I moved to Hawaii and started working for a kayak shop in order to spend as much time as possible learning about paddling the islands. A good swell meant taking surf boats out and brushing up on those white water skills. I started guided tours for a small company in Kailua, which also gave me the opportunity to be involved with some conservation efforts specifically related to Wedge-tailed Shearwaters.
After Hawaii, life changed with a move to the Arizona desert and the birth of our two daughters. I got to teach P.E. to homeschool kids and coach at a local high school. While visiting friends in Oregon I tried Stand-Up Paddleboarding for the first time on a lake in the Cascade Mountains.
In 2016 my family moved to Grand Marais, MN, and I started working at Stone Harbor Wilderness Supply as a part-time sales associate and kayak guide. I was the General Manager and had the privilege of leading a great team of people who love the outdoors and helping people experience it safely. I'm still very involved with the store, but we've recently relocated to northern Maine. I'm enjoying getting to explore a new part of the country.
I paddle an Eddyline Raven, which is the perfect Big Lake/sea kayak for this river and wave lover. I use the AquaBound Tango Carbon with a bent shaft. I'm a leftie, so I feather just slightly that way.
My board is a Gray Duck Journey. With this board I've done the Washburn Board Across the Bay and won my division twice. I use the Malta in Tide Green and kinda love having a pretty paddle.

Bree Roberts's love for sea kayaking began during a college trip in Ontario. Her paddling journey began as a YMCA camp counselor, leading to various certifications and a full-time career as a sea kayak guide. She has spent over a decade guiding in the North Island region of Vancouver Island, known for its incredible biodiversity and rich indigenous history.
In 2017, Bree achieved a long-term goal by guiding in Norway's UNESCO heritage fjords, sparking many international adventures. Bree’s dedication to kayaking and outdoor education is evident in her extensive experience and commitment to sharing her passion with others.

Caj Koskinen is a seasoned wilderness guide, packrafting instructor, and holder of the Rescue 3 Pro Certificate. With a wealth of experience in the outdoors, Caj founded the Finnish packrafting Facebook group, fostering a community of nearly 3000 members, and organises events and meetings to further engagement and participation. He also serves as Finnish customer service at Packrafting Europe and runs his own company, Hutkai, specializing in packrafting courses and guided trips. Caj's involvement in the paddling community extends beyond Finland; he helps organize Nordic meetings and facilitated the Finnish meeting in 2023.

Dan Ransom grew up backpacking and canyoneering near Salt Lake City, Utah. His adventures evolved with the use of packrafts, allowing him to explore remote areas of the Colorado Plateau that were otherwise inaccessible. Initially focusing on flatwater paddling, Dan's trips have transitioned to multi-day adventures featuring intermediate whitewater. Now residing in Central Oregon, he continues to engage in year-round paddling while designing packraft-specific gear like backpacks, pogies, and deck bags through his small business, Sockdolager Equipment.
Dan enjoys the unique experience of traversing entire landscapes, blending backpacking, canyoneering, and paddling. “The beauty of adding a river to the mix is you can still combine the best parts of backpacking and canyoneering, but also add the extra wrinkle of excitement from whitewater, or the pure bliss of drifting effortlessly.”. His favorite trips combine a mix of all of this, with the Grand Canyon being a top destination for its diverse and challenging terrain.
When asked “Why Aqua Bound?” Dan shares “In packrafting where weight is so critical on some trips, Aqua Bound is the obvious answer–there simply aren’t any other paddles as light and high-quality. But the main reason I am a big fan of Aqua Bound is they have taken a huge interest in packrafting, they are super approachable, and always keen to learn how we use the products and how they might be improved.” We are a fan of Dan for his willingness to help us continually innovate and meet evolving needs of packrafters.
When Dan is not designing and sewing gear or shredding rivers, he is actively involved with the American Packraft Association, contributing photography and video content. He also helps organize packraft meetups throughout Colorado and Utah to help stoke excitement and share advice and safe practices within the sport.
This year, Dan aims to explore remote multi-day backcountry rivers in Eastern Oregon and Idaho. He also plans trips down the Yampa and Rogue Rivers and hopes to develop a reliable packraft roll. With a focus on adventure and skill-building, Dan asks us all to wish his 42-year-old shoulders good luck!

Once a student at Sea Kayak Jervis Bay, Dane recently returned to the stunning coast of New South Wales in Australia to take over as the proud new owner of the business. He feels grateful to have made his favorite holiday location in the world his home while running a successful outdoor operation. Through Sea Kayak Jervis Bay, Dane supports a tight-knit community of paddlers, from novices to seasoned ocean paddlers, sharing his expertise and passion with all who seek the thrill of open water.
Deeply connected to nature, Dane finds the therapeutic rhythm of the paddle blade in the water good for the soul. He loves the state of peace found while paddling, whether gliding through smooth seas or finding a flow state in challenging ocean currents.
Located on the East Coast of Australia's 'Humpback Highway,' Dane recalls one particularly memorable experience: "I seemed to be accepted into a pod of four adult humpback whales while they fed and relaxed in calm waters off our beautiful Jervis Bay coastline." Locals and visitors in this area count down the days until these beautiful creatures begin their migration once again.
As someone who paddles every day for work and play, Dane requires highest quality gear to conserve energy and avoid injury. David is a professional kayaker and one of Ireland's top paddlers. A guide, coach and athlete, he is active at a high-level in multiple disciplines. From paddling raging whitewater rivers, surfing walls of Atlantic swell, to racing over incredibly long distances, his passion for being on the water and commitment to pushing his boundaries makes him a true waterman. Kayaking from a young age on the west coast of Ireland, David was exposed to a variety of disciplines growing up. Polo, whitewater and surf were how he honed his skills in his early teen years.
Kayaking takes up most of David’s time, both professionally and personally. He has completed four Devizes to Westminster races, holds the record for the fastest solo, crossed the North channel of the Irish Sea unsupported, raced the 111km Hawksbury Classic in Australia and is one half of the fastest team to ever kayak around Vancouver Island in Canada.

Devin Ashley Brown is a passionate paddler and community advocate based in Minnesota, with a deep connection to the Mississippi River. Devin's love for kayaking is deeply rooted in its meditative nature and the spiritual connection it provides to her. Paddling is an experience that opens parts of her heart and mind that remain inaccessible on land.
Devin decided to move to Minneapolis after becoming captivated by the Mississippi River's energy and vibrancy it brings to Minneapolis. In June of 2022, Devin entered the MR48, a nearly 50-mile race on the Mississippi River. She wanted to quit around mile 26, but her belief in the ability to wade through life’s challenges and a deep breath empowered her to dig deep. She took first place in the solo women’s division, completing the race in 6 hours and 13 minutes. She was the only woman of color in her heat, and one of just a few people of color in all the races.
Now Devin wants to help everyone learn the lessons the river has to teach. She wants to help her community reconnect with themselves and achieve their highest potential, as she did, through the nurturing waters of the Mississippi. As she pursued her paddling journey and found work with various outdoor companies, Devin faced challenges related to racial discrimination and inequities in outdoor activities. She uses her experiences to bring attention to the systemic issues that prevent BIPOC communities from accessing nature and engaging in paddling sports. Devin is dedicated to introducing more people who look like her to the joy of water sports.
In 2023, outside of her own business and instructing, Devin partnered with the Mississippi Park Connection (official friends group of the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area) to offer kayaking classes tailored to Black and Brown communities. That summer, Devin introduced over 100 people of color and girls to kayaking on the Mississippi River. Her efforts were met with enthusiasm when she transitioned to a full-time role as Community Programs Manager. Devin's work has brought her together with other melanated paddlers across the country. Their shared stories of facing verbal assaults on the water further underscore the importance of their mission to create inclusive and safe spaces in the paddling community.
In her upcoming source-to-sea paddle down the Mississippi River, Devin aims to become the first Black woman to complete the 2,340 mile (3766 km) journey from the river's headwaters in Itasca, Minnesota, to mile 0 in the Gulf of Mexico in New Orleans. This adventure is a personal achievement, a tribute to those without a record, and a way to honor her ancestors. Jessica Kelley is a former river guide turned packrafter extraordinaire. After guiding in her early 20s, she took a paddling hiatus before jumping back in with a packraft in 2017. Since then, she has paddled all over the Pacific Northwest and beyond, completing several packraft-specific Swiftwater Rescue courses and earning a Wilderness First Responder certification. When she’s not on the water, Jessica runs Evergreen Endurance Coaching, helping others plan and execute their own paddling adventures.

Hands down, tracing the Methow River from its source in the North Cascades to where it meets the Columbia River. The Methow is her home river, and exploring it so intimately was a true privilege.

Joachim Larssen, an intrepid kayaker from Varåa, Norway, feels that kayaking is written in his DNA. His love for kayaking began eight years ago when he embarked on his first expedition along the west coast of Thailand, eventually making his way to Malaysia. This initial adventure sparked a passion that has seen him kayak thousands of kilometers and overcome many challenges.
In 2019, Joachim nearly completed a border-to-border kayak trip around Norway, stopping after 119 days at Magerøya. During this journey, he had a memorable encounter with a beluga whale named Hvaldimir, which went viral on his YouTube channel.
His adventures didn't stop there. In 2020, he traveled to Sri Lanka to collect a custom kayak from Norse Kayaks but had to return to Norway abruptly due to the emerging global pandemic. Back home, he pursued formal training and became a kayak instructor.
In 2021, Joachim took on the ambitious challenge of kayaking from Norway to the Russian border and back, defying those who said it was impossible. He completed this 6,400 km journey in 230 days. His passion for exploration continued in 2022 when he kayaked from the Oslofjord to the Finnish border, navigating the challenges of the northern wilderness and its infamous bugs.
Joachim attests that the Whiskey paddle is perfect for the wild seas of Norway due to its blade size and lightweight. He also uses his paddle to build his camp, using them to set up his hammock and tarps, keeping him well protected yet maintaining visibility to be aware of surroundings.
Joachim is an active member of the paddling community, frequently giving talks at kayak clubs and engaging with kindergarten and school classes. He is always willing to share his experiences and tips with fellow paddlers he meets along his journeys.

When Laila Reigstad is paddling, the world becomes a much more peaceful place. For her, kayaking is not just a sport but a way to connect deeply with nature, bringing her close to sea animals and stunning locations unreachable by boat. Being near water offers her a form of mindfulness, and kayaking’s social aspect allows beginners and experts alike to come together, fostering a diverse community where age, gender, and job status do not matter.
Laila has been sea kayaking since the summer of 2002, living on small islands on the Norwegian west coast near Bergen. With a background of 21 years at the University of Bergen, she has lived full-time from sea kayaking since 2015, offering courses, day trips, weekend trips, and kayak expeditions in Southern Greenland during the summer. She is a certified paddling instructor with the Norwegian Paddling Association, a certified hiking/mountain guide with the Norwegian Trekking Association, and a Wilderness First Responder through the American NOLS system. In 2021, Laila published a beginner's book on sea kayaking, which quickly sold out. She also served as the editor of the Norwegian paddling magazine "PADLING" from 2022 to 2024 and launched the "Feminint Friluftsliv" (The Feminine Outdoors) app in January 2024, catering to women’s outdoor experiences based on her extensive experience and the numerous questions she has received over the years.
Laila's favorite paddling destination is Greenland. Kayaking among icebergs calved from the Greenland Ice Cap, floating in turquoise seawater, she navigates a landscape steeped in history. Southern Greenland is where Erik the Red sailed in 982, and the area has been inhabited by Inuits for hundreds of years. As a young adventurer, Marcel Bieg was captivated by the allure of kayaking, drawn to the sport by its promise of adventure, challenge, and travel. His passion for kayaking and rafting shaped his life for nearly a decade, during which he embraced a nomadic lifestyle—spending summers navigating rivers and oceans across the U.S. and winters teaching snowboarding in the mountains.
Marcel's paddling journey began in 1994, and by 1995, he was teaching whitewater kayaking and working as a commercial raft guide. His life has since revolved around paddlesports, guiding and teaching across the U.S., from Alaska to the Keys, and internationally in Europe and South America. He enjoys all forms of paddlesports, including sea kayaking, SUP, and rafting.
Over the years, paddlesports evolved for Marcel from a thrilling pastime to a powerful medium for educating others, not only in paddling techniques but in life skills. The community he built around paddling is his driving force, and his journey has been deeply enriched by the incredible people he’s met along the way. Paddlesports even introduced him to his wife, and together, they’ve raised their daughter on rivers that carve through the deepest canyons and stretch across expansive oceans.

Molly Hagbrand is deeply passionate about paddling and outdoor education, with a focus on sea kayaking. Her journey with sea kayaking began during her school years and has since evolved into a full-time career in outdoor education. Molly currently works as an instructor for NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School), where she plays an integral role in expedition teams. Spending approximately 150 days a year in a tent, Molly dedicates around 100 of those days to leading sea kayak expeditions, sharing her expertise and passion for paddling with others.
Molly holds the EPP assessor, green level certification, reflecting her commitment to excellence and safety in paddling education. Over the years, she has paddled many miles and spent countless hours on the water, introducing numerous individuals to the joys of paddling.

I’m fortunate to live in the colourful town of Tobermory on the wild and stunning Isle of Mull on the west coast of Scotland. I am an inveterate sea kayaker who loves nothing more than paddling slowly around the nooks and crannies of Tobermory Bay, hoping to chance upon seals, otters, sea eagles and other amazing coastal life. Immersion in Nature and wildness is elemental for me and sea kayaking is the most obvious way for me to enjoy this. I particularly enjoy long kayaking expeditions when I journey at the pace of nature, reaching beautiful places few get to see. I live with severe and enduring clinical depression which is a constant internal battle for me. I strongly believe in the

I live in the most northern part of Sweden (Lapland) in a very small village with the wilderness on my doorstep. I can literally start an adventure directly from my house. I have been paddling packraft since 2011. In the beginning I did mostly lake paddling, but since 2016 I have done more and more rivers and whitewater. Every year, me and my closest friends try to go on at least one longer packrafting trip (7-10 days). We also do a couple of shorter trips every year, including roundups.

Hi! I'm a marine biologist and sea kayak guide living in beautiful Pembrokeshire. I started my paddling life as a river raft guide, and after moving to the spectacular West of Wales, I quickly dived into a sea kayak and never looked back. I now sea kayak for work and fun and still can't get enough! As a guide in Pembroekshire I have the privilege of guiding and instructing folks around some of the most spectacular scenery in the world (not biased at all!!). Born and raised on the island of Hitra in Norway, Reidar Sether has always been drawn to the ocean. Six years ago, he bought his first kayak and quickly became adept after taking a basic sea kayak course. Initially, he enjoyed touring on calm waters, but his passion for challenging conditions was ignited during a symposium with his local kayaking club. There, he experienced the thrill of paddling in exposed water and breaking waves. Reidar loves pushing the limits in demanding conditions with skilled paddlers and enjoys playful activities like dock drops and seal launches. Over the years, he has taken more kayaking classes and is now qualified to teach and lead sea kayaking groups.
For Reidar, kayaking is either a serene outdoor experience or an action-packed adventure. He enjoys peaceful trips with friends, taking coffee breaks on the shore, and simply hanging out. But he also loves the thrill of paddling with a skilled group in areas known for demanding conditions with waves and currents. Paddling brings him close to nature while full of action. Improving his skills and having the right equipment for different paddling types is crucial for him. While he enjoys both scenarios, the adrenaline-filled adventures are his favorite.

I have fully immersed myself in a wilderness Scandinavian lifestyle. Originally from the UK, I have spent many years guiding multi-day kayaking expeditions in the Sankt Anna and Gryt archipelagos, from late spring into the autumn. I have also worked as a sea kayak guide in northern New Zealand, exploring offshore volcanic caves. In the wintertime, I live 200km within the arctic circle, leading arctic wilderness and northern lights photography excursions in Abisko, northern Sweden. Rodrigo Alfonzo, married to Hileana for over 17 years, is a proud father of three children. Born and raised in San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico, Rodrigo's background is deeply rooted in the hospitality industry. He and his family own the multi-award-winning hostel, Posada del Abuelito. His passion for his country, its people, and the state of Chiapas fuels his exploration and sharing of the region's geographic and cultural diversity.
For many years, Rodrigo has explored Chiapas with his family, unveiling its hidden gems and natural wonders to others. His adventure with packrafting began three years ago when he discovered the sport through social media, witnessing packrafters navigate Rio La Venta, a place he first visited in 2010 on a conservation trip. This discovery opened new horizons for exploring Chiapas.
In 2023, Rodrigo attended his first Roundup hosted by the American Packrafting Association (APA), where he fell in love with the sport and its inclusive community. Six months later, he embarked on a river expedition in Chiapas with the APA's Executive Director and two friends. The Roundup also marked his first packrafting course, teaching him the difference between merely surviving a river and thriving by successfully navigating it.
Rodrigo's favorite paddling trip is Rio La Venta. His journey with the river began in 2010, initially on foot as part of a conservation trip, and later using inflatable tubes. Discovering packrafts significantly improved his experience, providing better control and safety. He bought his first packraft, an Alpacka Classic, in 2022, and upgraded to an Aqua Bound Manta Ray paddle, enhancing his ability to navigate the river.
Rodrigo has since completed several first descents in Chiapas, including the full length of Cañon del Sumidero and Laguna Miramar. He also helped promote the first-ever two-day packrafting course in Mexico with ACA Certified instructors from Four Corners Guides.
Rodrigo envisions packrafts as tools for conservation. In 2023, he conducted water tests along Rio La Venta with the Comisión Nacional de Áreas Naturales Protegidas (CONANP), which had never tested the river before due to navigation challenges. This partnership continued in 2024, emphasizing the importance of environmental monitoring.
One of Rodrigo's proudest achievements is becoming the first-ever ACA packraft instructor in Mexico. His favorite paddle, the Aqua Bound Carbon Shred, is rugged, durable, and reliable for backcountry adventures, performing well in Chiapas' rivers.
Looking ahead, Rodrigo is planning the first-ever Mexican Packraft expedition down Rio La Venta in spring 2025, collaborating with CONANP for further water quality monitoring, and expanding conservation efforts to other rivers in Chiapas. As a representative of the tourism and paddlesport community, he engages with conservation institutions to ensure safe and sustainable recreation in Reserva del Ocote and beyond.
